Chapter 13

Genevieve

Genevieve sat on the loveseat, crying as Leona held her. She felt rejected and hurt because Ian didn’t even kiss her goodbye. She thought he was done with her. She knew he wasn’t going to email her. She believed he just said he was going to be nice, like every other guy. She let her tears flow down her face from her pained heart.

She didn’t fully understand why she had such strong pain after Ian rejected her. He was the first man to make her feel extremely wounded. When she had been on first dates or broken up with other men, she didn’t feel the same level of pain currently flowing through her heart.

She truly liked Ian and wanted to get to know him more. She tried to calm her heart down. She felt stupid for crying over a boy. She couldn’t even speak because of the hurt in her heart. She was shaking uncontrollably. She looked up at Leona to try to utter her feelings.

“H... He didn’t even kiss m... me. I fell asleep on h... hi... Him.” Gen hiccupped.

“Hun, calm down so I can understand you while you tell me about the date.” Leona cooed.

“O... Okay.”

Leona rubbed Gen’s back until she finally calmed down enough to speak. Gen took a couple deep breaths then started to tell Leona all about the date, from the beginning to the end. When Gen told Leona about her outburst, she felt stupid and started weeping again. Gen calmed down again and told Leona how he asked her if she wanted to come home with him. A swirl of emotions flowed through her. She felt lost and hopeless. Her emotions were heightened. She started to cry again as she finished talking. Leona rubbed Gen’s back again to soothe her.

“Well, Hun... He seemed happy to be with you. He said he would email you. That sounds promising! You are too wrapped up in your emotions.”

Leona was being really positive about the situation, but Gen didn’t believe her. Leona had to help calm her down many times throughout the years. Ian wasn’t the first man to reject her. Countless other men hurt her or said nasty things to her. Ian’s response was the worst occurrence she experienced. She felt like her soul was splitting in two.

Gen began deeply pondering Leona’s words. What if she is right? What if I am too focused on the negative that I’m not seeing the good moments of the date. Many people have bad first dates then get married. Maybe I am really overthinking this situation... Gen thought to herself. She could feel peace starting to sweep over her body. Her emotions started to quiet down within her.

“You’re probably right.” Gen uttered, looking down at her hands. She felt like an idiot.

“You know I am. That man was smitten. He was about to kiss you when I accidentally opened my door too soon... Sorry.” Leona replied, putting her hand to her forehead.

“Do you really think so?” Gen asked, starting to come to her senses.
